Day #10, #11 - Tralee, Croom, and Clifden

Hi again!  I didn't have access to wi-fi yesterday, so I'll fill you in on our recent adventures...

Yesterday, we enjoyed our last breakfast at the Brookmanor Lodge.

Jack and his Yogurt
My Ham and Cheese Omelette
Holden and his Pancakes
Before saying goodbye to the Brookmanor, we took a picture with the owner, Sandra:

And we met the hotel's cat, George:

After that, we were on the road again!

On the way, we stopped at our friends Hugo and Jo's Old Rectory, which is also known as Free-Range Kids, their summer kid camp.

Check them out online at www.freerangekids.ie and on Facebook if you want to send your kids to this fun-filled camp!

We were lucky enough to get a tour of their awesome property.  It's a kid's paradise!  They have all kinds of animals, plus tons of play equipment and a big yard.  You really have to see it to believe it, but here are some pictures for you to get an idea of how fantastic it is:

Tim and Hugo, with the house and play equipment in the background
Ducklings, chicks, and goslings

Pip and Pop the pigs

Cassie the donkey

The geese and ducks

Me on a tractor

Holden and Jack on a bike

Us on the trampoline

After that fun experience, we finished our drive to Clifden, where our new home awaited us.  Once we got settled in, we decided to eat at Supermac's, which is basically an Irish McDonald's.  (We didn't take any pictures there, but we assure you, it was delicious!)

Today, we hit the mini golf course first thing in the morning.  The course was beautiful, and the weather was perfect for golf!

After we had played the course too many times to count, we went home for some lunch.  Following our meal, we drove around Clifden for a while to see what it was like.  At the end of the day, we ate at a place called Lowry's Bar and Restaurant.

Well, that was a fun couple of days for us, and I hope you all had a nice end of the week too!  More updates soon.  Bye for now!

  2. To answer your question, Lori, Hugo and Jo are friends of Danielle's (Jen's mom, my grandma), and Jen used to babysit their kids when she was around 15 years old in Los Gatos. My parents visited their house 20 years ago when they came to Ireland on their honeymoon, so it was fun for them to see how much it changed.

Oh, and thanks, Lori! I am glad that you like it!

By the way, Matt, you are doing a great job on your blog, too.

  3. Thanks O'Megan!

I can't believe you guys went to the original Mickey D's and didn't take any photos! Inconceivable!

The birthplace of the world famous Big Mac and chips and you didn't share with us????

Go back and get Ronald's signature for me!

Tim, I can definitely see why you said the golf courses over there are so challenging.

    Thanks for the updates!

  4. Yay, I think I finally worked out the comment problem! First of all, Megan, what a fantastic blog you've created!!! I think you've got a future in travel related media! So glad you guys are having fun, taking in every castle, golf course, beach and pub along the way! Also, soooo proud of you girls for running that soggy race (I still can't believe you delayed the start, classic)! We miss you guys terribly but the blog helps us feel like we're there too! Glad you guys are going to the Guinness Brewery, since I never made it (found a husband in Galway instead), try the Black & Currant and remember Guinness is Good For You :) Oh, and LOVE that photo of you in the castle window sill, absolutely worth framing. You haven't missed much here, except some exceptionally good weather, which we'll save for your return! Jeremy is throwing out one more plea for you to smuggle back Marmite and Bovril, and if I can't have my brown sauce, I'll take some sea glass instead!
    Thanks for the great blog,
    Mags

  5. Hi Maggie,
We were in Galway yesterday and I told everyone about How You Met Your Husband. We are having a great time!! Having some weather today so not sure if we will be able to do our hike in the Connemara Forest. But Megan will have time to update her blog! She won't let me update it for her. It is HERS. My cousin told me about the Guinness with BlackCurrant, too, so I will try it next opportunity. And because of you now I know the name, Black & Currant-thanks! Funny side note--Jack ASKS to go to "bars and get a drink" but what he wants is a Fanta and WiFi. Ummm, not sure if they eat Marmite or Bovril here. We are in IRELAND, Sillies. I did snag 2 little packets of Brown Sauce for you. Little packets, like Ketchup packets. Thought I got 3 but the 3rd one is Malt Vinegar. Saw some Brown Sauce in a store and it is so cheap they practically give it away. But while most things are smaller here (by American standards) the only bottle I saw was a Liter size. I had an image of a liter of brown sauce exploding in my suitcase so didn't pick it up for you! Will look for a smaller bottle, as well as Marmite and Bovril, whatever that is. Maybe we will bring some Black and White pudding back for you--it is good! Still on our sea glass hunt. Have about a small handful after miles of beach combing. Guess they aren't Glass-Litterers here...We will be going to a Coral Beach in a few days. Ok, Megan is stirring so I better get off her blog. Miss everyone and home but having a good time here, that's for sure!
